Insulate your ceiling with De Vries Insulation!

What is ceiling insulation?

Ceiling insulation involves installing insulation within or beneath an existing ceiling structure to reduce heat loss and/or dampen sound. This can be applied to both wooden ceilings (joist constructions) and concrete ceilings.

Depending on the type of ceiling and the space, we use different methods:

  • Between the joists (filling the cavity)
  • Directly against the ceiling using a slim framework
  • Or by creating a suspended ceiling for maximum sound insulation and a clean finish with plasterboard

Ceiling insulation can be applied for thermal purposes (retaining heat) or acoustic purposes (reducing noise). With blown-in insulation, we can create an insulated ceiling without major demolition—just small access openings, quick installation, and a big impact.

How we insulate a ceiling

  1. Inspection & measurement
We assess the ceiling to determine the best insulation approach: wood or concrete, joist spacing, pipes, desired thickness, and whether a timber or metal framework is required.
  2. Opening & filling
We drill small, discreet access holes and evenly blow in Easycell or glass wool insulation between the joists or into the framework. This ensures every space is fully filled—making it more effective than loose insulation boards.
  3. Finishing
We seal the openings and, if needed, install plasterboards (single or double layer for acoustic performance). Joints are smoothed for a clean finish. We ensure everything is properly sealed and airtight for optimal insulation performance.

Insulating directly against the ceiling is also possible (ideal when headroom is limited). And if you need to insulate a floor via the crawl space, this is often referred to as insulating the “crawl space ceiling”—which we also provide.

Premium materials for your home

Our ceiling insulation materials

Easycell (cellulose blown-in insulation)

  • Excellent sound insulation (both impact and airborne noise) and stable thermal performance.
  • Ideal for wooden ceilings and timber frameworks.
  • Sustainable and circular insulation material.

Glass wool blown-in insulation

  • Lightweight, flexible, and highly effective between wooden joists.
  • Can be combined with double plasterboard for added acoustic mass.
  • A strong alternative to glass or stone wool boards, with better airtight filling.

Glass wool boards

  • In addition to blown-in insulation, ceiling insulation can also be installed using glass wool boards—either between joists or with a slim framework directly against the ceiling.
  • Only suitable when there is no finished ceiling (the ceiling must be open).
  • Ideal for renovations or new builds where the ceiling is already exposed or when installing a suspended ceiling.

Frequently Asked Questions about

Ceiling insulation

We’ve compiled the most frequently asked questions from our website visitors and customers and listed them here for your convenience.

Both are possible. Thermal ceiling insulation reduces heat loss, while acoustic ceiling insulation helps dampen sound between floors. In many cases, we combine insulation filling with (double) plasterboard to achieve both benefits.

We insulate between the joists using blown-in insulation. If needed, a vapour control layer is added, followed by a clean and neat finish. This method is ideal for insulating older ceilings or attic ceilings.

Insulation can be installed using a framework or directly against the ceiling. We fill the cavities with blown-in insulation or use rigid boards (such as PIR boards) when headroom is limited.

When acoustic performance is the priority. A suspended ceiling creates extra space for more insulation material and added mass—resulting in the best sound reduction.

It depends on your goal and available space. As a guideline:

70–120 mm for acoustic insulation
120–180 mm for thermal insulation

More important than thickness is a complete, gap-free fill—this ensures the best performance.

Yes. We insulate your ceiling through small access openings, so your existing ceiling can remain in place. After installation, everything is neatly finished and your ceiling looks as good as before.

That depends on where the ceiling you’re insulating is located. The ISDE subsidy only applies when you insulate part of the building envelope—meaning a ceiling that borders an unheated or cold space, such as an attic, basement, or flat roof.

If the ceiling is between two heated spaces (for example, between a living room and a heated bedroom), you are not eligible for ISDE, as there is no heat loss to the outside.

De Vries Insulation Technology Hoofddorp

“We had a very pleasant experience with De Vries Insulation Technology. Nico, Lauren, and Jos worked incredibly hard to insulate both our floor and cavity wall in just one day. They handled any challenges they encountered—such as a tight crawl space—in good consultation and worked with great attention to detail (for example, matching the mortar color perfectly so the drill holes are invisible). Everything was neatly finished and cleaned up afterwards.

An absolute recommendation, as far as we’re concerned, if we ever need more insulation work done, this is the team we’d choose again without hesitation.”
